Home > local business
A vibrant local economy is essential to the continued prosperity of Horsham District. The Horsham District has a strong administrative and service sector, and Horsham town’s thriving retail sector has benefited from five phases of redevelopment in the past 20 years. In contrast to national trends, the economy is also boosted by a growing manufacturing sector. Horsham has the highest small and home-based business sector in Sussex, with many operating in rural areas.
In working to help businesses to succeed in Horsham District the Community Partnership aims to:
- Help keep young people in housing and employment within the District
- Provide support for home based businesses, opportunities for grass root businesses and encouragement for lone businesses to develop from a low cost base, including aiming to ensure an adequate supply of premises
- Support the rural economy by changing attitudes to locally produced goods and continuing to work with the farming community
- Raise standards of management and workforce, through the pursuit of training and skills, in pursuit of achieving better efficiency and higher levels of excellence
Encourage those not registered for work to return to employment
Support and promote sustainable tourism facilities
Promote better links between business and education
These objectives are being progressed by the Business Theme Group through its Action Plan and in collaboration with other Theme Groups, particularly Lifelong Learning for skills training.
